Mt. Pocono seeks Organist/Choirmaster

Trinity Episcopal Church, Mt. Pocono, Pennsylvania is seeking an Organist/Choirmaster to provide music at all weekly and special services including, Christmas Eve/Day, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, and any other service agreed upon by the Priest, Vestry, and Organist. Right of first refusal for funerals and weddings.

Regular weekly service is Sunday morning 10:00 a.m. A volunteer adult/youth choir would rehearse once a week, as set by Organist/Choirmaster and Choir Members. The Candidate must be able to work well with staff and a choir. Knowledge of Episcopal Liturgy as well as familiarity of all common traditional hymn styles and other styles of music would be beneficial. The salary will be based on experience and the church budget. There is an Allen Electronic Organ and a Steinway Grand Piano in the church.

Job Description

Job Title: Organist/Choirmaster

Reports To: Rector (Priest-in-Charge)

General Duties: Play the organ, piano, direct the choir, participate in liturgical planning.

Specific Duties:

1.)       Liturgical planning:

                        a.)       In consultation with the Rector (Priest-in-Charge), select the music                    

                                   for the services at which the Organist/Choirmaster or supply        

                                    musician plays.

                        b.)       Attend and participate in a maximum of four meetings per year of                                       the Worship Committee.

2.)       Play the organ and direct the choir during the main Sunday service, with the

           following exceptions:

                        a.)       The Organist's four weeks of paid vacation per year.

  1. ) Occasions when a visiting organist and choir provide the music.

                        c.)        Any other occasion mutually agreed upon with the Rector

                                    (Priest-in-Charge)

3.)       Play the organ on the following Holy Days:

                        a.)       Christmas Eve - one service

                        b.)       Christmas Day - one service

                        c.)        Ash Wednesday - one service

                        e.)       Maundy Thursday - one service

                        f.)         Good Friday - one service

                        g.)       Other days as mutually agreed upon with the Rector

                                    (Priest-in-Charge) and Vestry

4.)       Conduct weekly choir rehearsals:

            a.)       Day and time agreed upon with choir.

            b.)       Sunday mornings prior to worship

            c.)        Rehearsals may be cancelled for reasons such as illness, weather, lack of                    sufficient choir members present, or visiting Organist and Choir.

            d.)       The choir is expected to be in place to participate in leading worship on all                                  Sundays.

5.)       Play for weddings and funerals

            a.)       Trinity's Organist/Choirmaster has "first refusal" for such services.

            b.)       Compensation will be based on the parish fee schedule.

6.)       Prepare a report for the Annual Meeting of the Parish.

7.)       Abide by the Employment and Personnel Policies of Trinity Church.

1.)       Demonstration of musical ability to perform the duties of Organist/Choirmaster.

2.)       Education, training, and experience consistent with the job requirements.

Who we are…..

Trinity Episcopal Church, Bethlehem, is seeking a Director of Youth Ministries. This part-time position oversees Christian Formation for our youngest members through graduation from high school. It will also participate in developing intergenerational programming and activities for families.

Trinity is a 350-member congregation in the historic district of Bethlehem, whose Youth Ministries Program currently includes: Godly Play, a juniors’ program, Come As you Are for teens, and a nursery.

A strong leader with a love of children and young people; faith; the ability to work with a dedicated corps of adult volunteers; enthusiasm; good organizational, recruiting and communication skills; familiarity with programs, and with the Episcopal Church; and a vision of the Church as community.

Responsibilities include…..

The duties of our youth minister vary from day to day, but his/her main responsibility is to develop and coordinate children and youth ministry at Trinity, with the goal of teaching our young members to seek and serve Christ in all persons. Direction, communication and recruitment of volunteers are crucial responsibilities. Participation in parish activities is expected. He/she might arrange for workshops and programming for families; develop educational materials; attend meetings to educate Vestry, congregation, parish ministry groups, staff and others about the activities of the youth ministry. He/she will also be responsible for additional administrative tasks relating to Youth Ministry, and will be responsible for developing and managing the budget for the program. The Youth Minister works under the direct supervision of the Rector.

Emergency Shelter Coordinator sought

I just received this notice from The Bethlehem Hospitality Network which houses the homeless during the cold winter months Dec.-March in parish halls and is an ecumenical response to homeless in the Lehigh Valley.  7+ congregations open their doors each week to house the homeless in the parish halls of their churches. Ecumenical  in nature,  the Network represents Episcopal, Moravian, Lutheran, UCC, Unitarian and Independant congregations.   A coordinator is needed to help facilitate this effort.  Through generous grants from the Bethlehem Area Moravians and The New Hope Campaign we have the funds to hire a part time coordinator for this sheltering season. General Job Description: Under the direction of the Steering Committee for the Emergency Shelter, the Emergency Shelter Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the overall daily functioning and communication of the program. 

Major Job Duties:
•Coordinate resources across sites, i.e., sleeping bags, etc.
•Create a list of facilities, locations, times facilities open and close doors
•Help Site Coordinators manage volunteers
•Become a familiar presence at each site
•Communication
•Facilitate communications between sites
    •All information pertaining to the Emergency Shelter program   •Issues regarding shelter guests   •Communicate issues of program suitability with shelter guests   •Enforce decisions made by steering committee   •Keep a log of issues from each site   •Coordinate facilities during snow emergencies   •Attend monthly mandatory shelter staff meetings and communicate with the Steering Committee about the activities and needs of the shelters
•Oversee working committees
•Create list of emergency contacts
•If necessary, coordinate transportation of clients to sites

Qualifications:
•Knowledge of issues relating to homelessness
•Prefer 2 years experience in social services, with preference given to volunteer management experience
•Excellent written & oral communication skills
•Ability to make quick, difficult decisions
•Ability to multi-task
•Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
•Positive attitude, compassionate
•Ability to both take direction and to work autonomously when necessary
•The ability to respond to requests for information via phone, mail, and e-mail

•Must be at least 21 years of age

Other: Work out of home.  Cell phone and travel expenses included in salary.  This position requires the candidate to file a 1099 and pay your own taxes.

Hours: 20-30 hours per week, beginning December 1, 2010 and lasting through April 7, 2011. Hours will be flexible based on needs of volunteers.

St. Andrew's support group for the unemployed

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Allentown/Bethlehem, is hosting a support group for the unemployed. The unemployed are having a tough time searching for employment, many get frustrated and feel alone. To help them, we are starting a group for them to socialize and network with peers that are in similar circumstances. We are also trying to establish contacts with agencies that could provide resume critiquing, current job lists from CareerLink, and other similar services.
