Bishop Anthony Poggo of Kajo Keji is here ... "After a rather strenuous time at the immigration line," Bishop Paul wrote online this evening (Monday), "BIshop Anthony did make it, and the Archdeacon, Charlie Barebo, and I brought him to Bethlehem, where he and I had some private time to reconnect over a meal. He is resting now, and will start his time with us tomorrow. Having not seen each other for 18 months, it was good to talk face-to-face. He has much news to share, and looks forward to his visits in Wilkes-Barre, Reading, Bethlehem and Sayre." Tuesday, March 2, 6:30-8:00 p.m., at St. Stephen's Pro-Cathedral, Wilkes-Barre; Thursday, March 4, 6:30-8:00 p.m., at Christ Church Reading; Friday, March 5, 7:00-9:00 p.m., meeting especially (but not entirely) with youth 6th to 12th grades, at Cathedral Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem; Sunday, March 7, 10:30, Preaching at Church of the Redeemer, Sayre, followed by reception and conversation at noon. Regional Discernment Teams ... [From the COM] The Commission on Ministry once again seeks talented and committed people to volunteer for consideration as members of another diocesan regional discernment team. It is the task of the group to meet no less than six times with an aspirant to assist in this critical step of discerning an aspirant’s call to ministry. We ae looking for people to meet in the general vicinity of the Lehigh Valley. Training will be held soon by teleconference. We would like to get as many prospective members trained as possible so that regional groups will be ready as aspirants come into the process for discernment. If you are or have been part of regional discernment and would like a refresher, you are more than welcome. If you feel you have the gifts and time for this important ministry and/or would like more information, please contact Monica Lewellis, [email protected], as soon as possible.

Worship in the House of Peeps
... [From Andrew Gerns] Bethlehem is not only the House of Bread, we
are the Home of Peeps, so I thought this was worth a look. Since April,
2007, the Washington Post has run a Peeps Diorama Contest which has, to
use their words, "stunned the hearts and minds of our newsroom -- and
our nation." They are now receiving entries for their fourth outing,
and one of the entries is a rendering of life in the National
Peep-thedral, or as we might say around here "worship in the House of
Peeps." Read more here.
In the RC Diocese of Scranton ... The beleaguered diocese as a new bishop, a native son who wasted no time in his first news conference in setting a tone distinctly different from that of his predecessor. More here.

Their faith may combine elements of indigenous religion with traditions
of Christianity, but it is easy to imagine that the suffering of Jesus

Learning From the Sin of Sodom ... [By Nicholas D. Kristof - New York Times, Opinion]
In one striking passage, Mr. Stearns quotes the prophet Ezekiel as
saying that the great sin of the people of Sodom wasn't so much that
they were promiscuous or gay as that they were "arrogant, overfed and
unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy." (Ezekiel 16:49.) Read more.
'Holywood' goes to the Oscars ... This year's Academy Awards ceremony on March 7 features a bumper crop of films, many that are built around spiritual, and sometimes overtly religious, themes. Are 2009's movies really more spiritually focused than films of recent years? Has Hollywood found religion? Or are producers just recognizing that religion sells? Read more.
