During one recent week, more than 700 crocheted and knitted caps were distributed to the Amerivan Cancer Society, cancer clinics and hospices across Schuylkill, Carbon, Northumberland and Berks counties.
When this project was initiated in June we had hopes of getting 100 caps. As people became aware of Caring Caps they were eager to help by donating yarn, money to purchase yarn and of course to knit or crochet these caps for such a worthwhile cause.
Leading the procession after the caps were blessed by The
Rev. James Rinehart is Mrs. Alice Sapp of Frackville who crocheted over 400. Mrs.
Debbie Sapp and Mrs. Carol Jones each made over 100. Also attending the
service at Trinity were Ms. Pat Long, Senior Patient Services Coordinator of the
American Cancer Society for Schuylkill and Berks County, and Mr. Bob
Beauvias, Administrator of the Simon Kramer Institute in New Philadelphia.
