(1) Who's on YouTube? Would you believe the Queen of England, the White House and ... the Vatican?
(2) In a gesture billed as an “act of peace,” but one destined both to fire intra-Catholic debate about the meaning of the Second Vatican Council and to open a new front in Jewish/Catholic tensions, the Vatican has formally lifted a 20-year-old excommunication imposed on four bishops who broke with Rome in protest over the liberalizing reforms of Vatican II (1962-65). O God, by the preaching of your apostle Paul you have caused the light of
the Gospel to shine throughout the world: Grant, we pray, that we,
having his wonderful conversion in remembrance, may show ourselves
thankful to you by following his holy teaching; through Jesus Christ
our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. [Collect for the Conversion of St. Paul]

(1) Slumdog Millionaire feels like an instant classic because the film so deftly combines the
distinctive visual and storytelling styles of noteworthy cinema with
characters and conflicts that would be at home in great literature. Over the course of the movie, each of the three characters embarks on an emotionally compelling faith journey. Read reviews at Episcopal Life Online and Spirituality and Practice. On the S&P website, created by Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat, there's a section devoted to movies on DVD, a great place to look before going to Blockbuster or NetFlix.
(2) The Washington Post's On Faith website offers two new interviews with Bishop Gene Robinson. In the first (four minutes) he talks with Sally Quinn about Barack Obama, Rick Warren and his involvement in the "prayer wars" that surrounded Obama's inauguration. He refers to the Obama adminisration as "the gay friendliest Presidency we have ever seen." In the second (eleven minutes) he talks about his faith journey and beliefs.

Mark Bittman, food columnist for The New York Times. Are you eating sanely, morally? Listen to this NPR interview with NYTimes food columnist Mark Bittman. His new book is called Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating. Here's an excerpt. [Hat tip to Jim Naughton at Episcopal Cafe] And here's a shorter (slightly edited) excerpt: The goal of eating sanely is not to cut calories; that will happen naturally, and you probably won't notice it. Not to cut fat, either; it is possible you will eat more fat than now, though different fat. The same is true of carbs. And the goal is not to save money, though you will. The goal is simply to eat less of certain foods, specifically animal products, refined carbs and junk food; and more of others, specifically plants, in close to their natural state. You'll change your life, probably weigh less, lower your chance of heart disease and other lifestyle diseases, and you''ll make a contribution to slowing global warming. This is not "a diet," but rather a shift in perspective or style, an approach. The principles are simple: deny nothing; enjoy everything, but eat plants first and most. No gimmick, no dogma, no guilt, and no food police.

"If one's religion tends to lead to or reinforce one's feelings of superiority, arrogance, hostility, fighting, and so on, both the apostle and the psychologist (for perhaps different reasons) think something is wrong." [From "Strong Religious Blief: Sick or Healthy" in Bishop Paul Marshall's book "Messages in the Mall: Looking at Life in 600 Words or Less"]
