Tell the Stories of Margaret's Life as You Knew Her

A Memorial Service for the Rev. Margaret Helen Merrell, a priest of the Diocese of Bethlehem who died on April 16, was held on Saturday, June 2, at Christ Church, Susquehanna. Margaret served as rector of Susquehanna Country Ministry (Christ Church, Susquehanna, and St. Mark's Church, New Milford) from 1979 to the mid '90s. She was the first woman to serve as a rector in the Diocese of Bethlehem. Bishop Paul presided at the service. Canon Carol Horton, who served as rector at Susquehanna Country Ministry from 1995 to 2006, preached the sermon.

Carol's sermon, a few photos and more information about Margaret may be downloaded below.

A Sermon on the Trinity

"As I grow in relationship to people I learn more about them, but there is nobody whose internal life is completely transparent to me. In fact, to say, “I know all about you,” or worse, “I know what you’re thinking,” is probably the most arrogant thing a person can utter, and is destructive of relationships. It’s like saying that someone is fixed for all time, and that by understanding them I have mounted and stuffed them on the wall over my mental fireplace."

Download below the sermon preached by Bishop Paul Marshall during his visitation to the Cathedral Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem, on Trinity Sunday.
